The Shawnigan Basin Society, established in 2012, is a registered non-profit society. Our mission is to restore and preserve the ecological function of the watersheds and the drinking water they supply in the South Cowichan region generally and Shawnigan Creek Watershed specifically. We work with community members, community organizations, local First Nations and the CVRD to promote a holistic approach toward environmental solutions.

As can be seen from the bios, the Directors of the SBS have wide-ranging expertise.

We believe that it is essential that we protect 30% of the ecological subregions by 2030 and 50% by 2050 if there be a future for the generations to come. We are engaged in ecological surveys and GIS mapping in developing a strategic plan on how this can be accomplished. We collaborate with the CVRD in monitoring the water quality on our lakes and streams. We have developed realistic methodologies to control Eurasian watermilfoil in Shawnigan Lake and have shared these approaches with other environmental groups on Vancouver Island. We have public outreach and education programs with a particular focus on young people.

Shawnigan Basin Society recognizes and acknowledges the traditional custodians of Showe'luqun, the Hul’q’umi’num speaking peoples,
who hunted and gathered in this area, respecting their caring connections to each other and the places where we live, work and play.

Our community members have donated some truly unique items to assist us with fundraising. Please consider bidding high and even above value to support our volunteers.

If you have the winning bid you can e-transfer the funds to director@shawniganbasinsociety.org there is no password required as the funds are automatically deposited and we are notified that you have paid. If you pay this way 100% of the payment is received by Shawnigan Basin Society. IF YOU PAY ONLINE A PERCENTAGE WILL BE CHARGED.
