SAY NEIGH. HORSESHIT CANADA

Stand with Jann Arden and thousands of other Canadians to put an end to live export of horses from Canada to foreign countries to be slaughtered for human consumption. 100% of your support goes directly to the Canadian Horse Defence Coalition. Artist Marion Evamy of Red Art Gallery has donated two outstanding original paintings for the auction, and a limited edition print, and 100% of the proceeds also goes directly to the CHDC. These vibrant contemporary paintings capture the soul and energy of these sentient beings. The paintings will appeal to horse lovers and art lovers alike. Here's some background on why we are holding this auction and fundraiser.

On December 16th, 2021 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued mandate letters to his ministers that would ban the export of live horses for slaughter. This campaign promise resulted in a landslide of supportive voters. Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, was expected in good faith to honour this motion.

However, at the end of March 2023, the 36,175 citizens who had signed a petition towards this motion were contacted via email and told this issue has been tabled. That’s government speak for quietly being swept under the rug. Bibeau cites a lengthy list of circumstances she must first consider before the welfare of the horses including “the impacts on producers’ livelihoods.”

Let’s flip the table.

While our horses are perishing, the horse export business in Canada is thriving. In the dark yet under our noses, live healthy horses are being shipped and slaughtered. In horrific conditions, loaded into the bellies of planes, these horses endure up to 30 hours of trembling in their own fear, headed toward their demise.

The horse meat business in Canada operates on the down low. Kill pens are hidden and shipping activity carries on clandestinely during the night to intentionally keep the public in the dark. Horses from countries that have banned such exports are accepted by Canadian businesses through back door policies. Others are collected through auctions and various shady methods of acquisition. This is the one and only "horse auction" that will benefit the horses.

One must wonder why we do not see representation of these “businesses” in mainstream advertising. Because we know it’s wrong. They do too.

Please participate in the auction or make a cash donation - every dollar counts!

Printed Pegasus - original painting by Marion Evamy
Greek Mythology abounds with fantastic animals and creatures, and one of the most recognisable is Pegasus, the Winged Horse. The symbol of Pegasus is an enduring one, and instantly recognizable. Pictured as a strong white stallion with wings, he is one of Greek Mythology's most beloved creatures. I chose to have some fun with a mixed media version, enhanced with a range of my favourite colours! The graphic qualities of the majestic horse placed in a colour field of strong colours, continues my quest to depict the feelings and emotions these amazing animals bring forth in us! Framed in a contemporary black floater.
