Kidneys on the Move (KOTM) is an annual benefit held in support of patients living with kidney disease and in need of a kidney transplant. It was started by Doug and Maureen Hobbs of Victoria, after Doug’s brother Keith donated his kidney to him on Valentine’s Day, 2000. Doug and Maureen joined the Kidney Foundation of Canada BC & Yukon Branch to help raise awareness about the importance of organ registration and to advocate for patients living with kidney disease. Over the past 20 years, KOTM donors have raised over $100,000. for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC & Yukon Branch, (KF Charitable # is 10756 7398 RR0001) Kidneys on the Move continues to this day as a legacy to Doug Hobbs. For the past 20 years, KOTM has been held as an annual fundraiser for patients travelling to Vancouver for their kidney transplant, and promoting awareness of transplantation and registration for organ donation. Hosted at the Royal Colwood Golf Course, KOTM has usually included a silent auction, dinner, and dance. KOTM donors have raised over $100,000 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC & Yukon. KOTM continues to this day as a legacy to Doug Hobbs.
We appreciate all of the support from our community and businesses for their contributions over the past 20 years. This year, we would like to request a donation for our upcoming online auction which will be available From March 6 – 13th at hibid.ca. The need to support kidney patients in need of transplantation is now greater than ever, especially with the challenges and restrictions imposed by the COVID 19 pandemic.
We are excited that KOTM will be reaching out to as many as possible through our virtual auction as well as access via YouTube to some amazing entertainment. We will be featuring a musical performance by renowned pianist, Jeanne Campbell, a performance by the PACE musical group, and a magic act by Jason Verners. The YouTube links to the entertainment will be made available from March 6 – 13.
