Welcome to our first annual online auction in support of HTHS (Heart Transplant Home Society ).
Bid from ANYWHERE in British Columbia, from ANY of our communities, BUT make sure you watch for details on mailing, shipping, and delivery.
Funds raised through our event go directly to support the Heart Transplant Home Society and its maintenance of post-surgical accommodation for heart transplant and ventricular assist device recipients. Over 95 cents of every dollar you give goes to the homes and the support of the patients and their caregivers.
The HTHS Board is run, operated, and comprised of five volunteers, four of whom have received heart transplants.
Vancouver is the only city in British Columbia that performs heart transplants. Those in need of a transplant who live outside of the Lower Mainland are responsible for finding accommodation for themselves and their caregiver(s). They generally need accommodation near the hospital for one to three months, although sometimes they need more time until they are cleared to return home by their transplant team. If this accommodation requirement is not met, the patient may be delayed in receiving their transplant and, subsequently, at risk of not receiving a heart in time.

 | Home Operation The HTHS has been operating two apartments within walking distance to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC, furnished and ready, for out-of-town heart transplant and ventricular assistive device (VAD) patients and their caregivers for 20 years. Our mission is to eliminate barriers and financial stressors associated with securing local accommodation for patients in need of a heart transplant or VAD in BC, and to date, we have been able to assist over 225 heart transplant and VAD recipients. Patients who are at the point where an organ transplant is necessary are often on disability or not working enough to be able to afford their existing rent or mortgage as well as a hotel room or apartment in Vancouver for their recovery.
