Roy Leadbeater - Untitled
Acrylic on Canvas 26" x 26" - Framed

A descendant of the famous potter Josiah Wedgwood, Roy Leadbeater was born in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England in 1928, and later abandoned by his parents. After serving in the British Merchant Navy and also as a member of the British police who helped keep peace in post-WWII Palestine, he studied drawing at the Birmingham School of Art. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 and studied drawing on a part-time basis at the University of Alberta under H.G. Glyde.

“I’ve always believed that some artists are like physicists – they want to know the answers behind life and are fascinated with the unknown. I’m interested in asking what life and living is all about – asking questions of the invisible world and making that invisible world visible. I’ll never quit. One of the great advantages of being in the arts, or anything creative, is that you never run out of ideas. What you run out of is time.” Roy Leadbeater

Philip Mix - Teatro Mondrian
Oil on Linen - 30" x 24" - Framed

Philip Mix was born in Edmonton Alberta in 1955. He received his Bachelor of Arts in painting from the Alberta College of Art, Calgary in 1980. His paintings have shown in several Canadian galleries and abroad including London, Israel and Cyprus. He operated a conservation studio, Fine Art Restoration, in Victoria B.C. from 1986 to 2011. During that time he was a member of the Pacific Conservation Group, and Canadian Conservation Associates. Now retired from paintings conservation, he lives in a small community on Vancouver Island and devotes all his energy to his family, his studio, and an uncooperative garden.

My paintings are intentionally spare and dispassionate. They are a study in reduction: in economy of line, confined design, select chords of colour and minimized depth of field. My desire is to produce an artwork that is beautiful for its singleness of purity and purpose: the elegance of simplicity. I choose subjects whose form or function lends itself to the discovery of some intrinsic beauty; a beauty that becomes intriguing once the inherent grace of its form has been recognized and captured.

Manish Om Prakash - Fisherman
Oil on Panel - 12" x 9" - Framed

Manish Om Prakash was born in the city of Amritsar in India’s Punjab province. His education includes a Baccalaureate in Biological Sciences, a Masters in Life Sciences (India), and a Masters in Neurobiology (Canada). His desire to understand the dynamics of the human form, and interest in anatomy is not only pivotal to his educational background, but also plays an important role in his figurative art works.

In his teens, Manish entered and won first place in a Regional art contest in India. Through this, he met a well-known national artist, Promilla Luthra-Shaw, who took him on as a student and made him her protégé. Until that time, with the exception of helpful advice and input from family, he essentially had taught himself drawing and painting through careful observation and trial and error, and through studying works by Renaissance artists (Michelangelo, Carraviagio, Botticelli), Dutch painters (Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn) and contemporary artists (William Adolphe Bougereau, Salvador Dali, Gustav Klimt). Luthra-Shaw’s backing over the next few years provided invaluable technical guidance and moral support.

In 1984, with Luthra-Shaw’s encouragement, Manish held his first solo exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. The exhibition was favourably reviewed by several well-respected critics. This successful debut was followed by another solo exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi in Chandigarh in 1985 and several regional and national juried art shows.
